In 1934 Peter Bartuska Sr. and his wife Anna opened a small Singer sewing shop on Main Street in Nanticoke. Soon they expanded the business to include appliances and moved to a bigger location next door. In the 1940's Bartuska's business grew to more of a "general store" adding household items, rugs, vacuum cleaners, radios, and even some toys. In the 50's, with the help of their son Peter Jr., Bartuska's became one of the first TV dealers in the valley. By 1960, Bartuska's outgrew that location and moved the business across the street to the former Catnes Chevrolet building where Bartuska's showroom is today.
